Dembele For Pogba And Other Stories

Dembele for Pogba: Barca means business, Arsenal seeks upgrade

Barcelona are reportedly ready to do some pretty incredible transfer business between now and the end of the summer.

In a decision that would have major ramifications in the Premier League, Barcelona would be prepared to sell Ousmane Dembele to Arsenal in order to fund a move for Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba, according to RAC1, as translated by the Metro.

This could be huge in terms of how it affects this season’s title race or race for the top four in England, with Dembele a signing who’d seriously strengthen Arsenal if he could get back to his best after a difficult and injury-hit time at the Nou Camp. Pogba’s exit, meanwhile, might make sense in a way after his struggles to adapt under Jose Mourinho, though many fans would no doubt be distraught to see United lose a potentially world class player so late in the summer.

The Pogba transfer stories are certainly hotting up as Tuttosport recently claimed the France international held talks with Barcelona director of football Eric Abidal in LA. Don Balon have added that the Red Devils would be prepared to sanction Pogba’s sale, so there may be some late movement here in the final days of the transfer window.

Ousmane Dembele transfer in sight for Arsenal?

Meanwhile, Don Balon have also linked Arsenal with Dembele recently as he mulls over his future after his difficulties since moving to La Liga last summer. The youngster previously looked one of the best young players in the world at Borussia Dortmund, but doesn’t seem an ideal fit for how Barcelona play, and could have cause to fear for his place after the Catalan giants signed Malcom this summer.

Arsenal could do with an upgrade on the likes of Danny Welbeck and Alex Iwobi on the left-hand side of their attack, but Don Balon have previously reported he’d likely cost around £89m, which looks too expensive for the famously frugal Gunners. Still, if Barcelona are desperate to land Pogba and ready to let Dembele go to help it happen as RAC1 supposedly claim, perhaps there’ll be some room for negotiation on that heavy price tag.

Zaha, Chelsea: Transfer deal or no deal?

Chelsea has been dealt a blow in the transfer market after Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson’s comments on Wilfried Zaha’s situation this morning. Zaha has spent the majority of his career at Crystal Palace and came through their ranks at youth level, making over 200 appearances for the club overall. He moved to Old Trafford in 2013 but made just 2 first team appearances for Manchester United and was loaned out to Cardiff City and back to Palace before rejoining the Londoners permanently in 2015.

Since then he has gone from strength to strength and vastly improved his game, adding an end product to his trademark dizzying runs which had often been missing during in his younger years. Reports have emerged from the Daily Mirror linking Zaha as wanting out of the club to seal a transfer to Chelsea, but Hodgson has poured cold water on the speculation.

“I spoke to Wilf yesterday and he certainly gave me no indication that he wanted to quit the club,” he told talkSPORT.

“In fact we were talking about how good the new signings were and how they would help us.

“The thing with Wilf is very simple. He’s very much an integral part of our plans, he’s very much an integral part of Crystal Palace Football Club.

“Everyone likes him, everyone admires him.

“He knows that and I think he likes and respects the club as well.”

This news will come as another shock to the system for Blues supporters, following the failure to snare Argentina forward Gonzalo Higuain, who joined AC Milan yesterday despite having been linked as a top target for Chelsea by the Daily Mirror.

With current number 1 striker Alvaro Morata going through an extended barren spell in front of goal, the need for Sarri to bring in some new attacking talent in the coming days is clear for all to see.

The Ivory Coast international Zaha would have been the ideal signing at this stage and provided the extra forward influence Chelsea desperately need, but it now looks more likely he will remain in the red and blue of Palace if Hodgson’s words are anything to go by.

Pogba’s Barcelona shirt number

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has reportedly already picked out the number 8 shirt for if he gets a transfer to Barcelona this summer. Tuttosport recently claimed the France international had held talks over a switch to the Nou Camp with Barca chief Eric Abidal in LA and speculation is really starting to hot up. Pogba hasn’t had the easiest of times at Old Trafford and doesn’t look the ideal fit for a Jose Mourinho-led side, with Barcelona surely more suited to his kind of playing style.

This could be why Don Balon claim United are ready to sanction Pogba’s sale this summer, though this undoubtedly seems a risky move. It may be very much on the cards, however, as the Metro state that the 25-year-old has already picked out Andres Iniesta’s old shirt number if he does manage to seal his move to the Catalan giants.

The legendary playmaker left Barcelona this summer and it would surely take a big-name signing like Pogba to help fill that void. The former Juventus man may not have been given much of a chance to show it in this struggling United outfit, but at his best he’s a superb creative-minded player who can contribute a great deal in the final third.

United have often used him in a slightly deeper role, with Mourinho not exactly renowned for getting his teams to play particularly expansive or adventurous football.

Arturo Vidal: Barca or Milan?

As per the information gathered by the Catalan press that is Mundo Deportivo Barcelona are on track to officially announce the signing of Inter Milan and AC Milan midfield target and Bayern Munich midfielder Arturo Vidal.

The former player of Juventus is in the final stretch of negotiations with the side managed by Ernesto Valverde regarding his salary. The champions of Germany want to sell him in the summer transfer window and thus the Nerazzurri, AC Milan and Barcelona wanted to sign the Chilean professional footballer. According to what has been told to Mundo Deportivo, after the last negotiations with the Bavarian club, Barcelona will agree a transfer fee that will be less than 20 million euros with Bayern Munich for Arturo Vidal.

The 31 year old midfielder will commit to Barcelona for three seasons. The technician of Barcelona wanted a player soon to replace Paulinho and Arturo Vidal will now fill in the void left by his departure. The deal could be made official on Friday.

Liverpool looks red hot

Liverpool signing £151m trio & offloading quartet in final days before transfer deadline would confirm status as serious contenders for the biggest prizes

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has been busy in the summer transfer window so far, but further dealings could be on the cards which could complete the team.

Fabinho, Xherdan Shaqiri, Alisson and Naby Keita have all arrived at Anfield this summer which has greatly increased the options at Klopp’s disposal for the upcoming season, however, some shrewd extra changes could bring perfect harmony to the squad.

Here is a quick look at three potential players that could still be on the Red’s radar and four that may still be offloaded before the transfer window closes on August 9th…

IN – Ousmane Dembele

First on the list is Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele, who has returned to the club this summer as a World Cup winner after starring for France in Russia.

According to Don Balon, Liverpool has already opened talks with Camp Nou officials about the possibility of signing the 21-year-old, who has endured a mixed start to life in Spain and could be knocked further down the pecking order at the club after the arrival of the Brazilian midfielder Malcolm.

The Reds have one of the best forward line-ups in Europe already but Dembele would undoubtedly take that to a whole new level if he can revive his career and show the kind of form that made him such a sought-after talent at Borussia Dortmund.

However, Don Balon note that he’d cost around £89million to let go, which makes this one heck of an ambitious deal to pull off this late in the summer, though remember Barcelona have an extra few weeks to reinvest that in a replacement – if new signing Malcom isn’t one already.

Ousmane Dembele

OUT – Simon Mignolet

The Belgian goalkeeper has been at Anfield since 2013 and started out as the club’s number 1 during his first few years on Merseyside. However, in recent times he has fallen way down the pecking order, most recently losing his place in the team to Loris Karius.

Alisson’s record transfer from Roma this summer practically spells the end for Mignolet’s time at Liverpool and after 155 appearances for the club and at the age of 30, now would be a good time to leave in search of regular action.

Barcelona has been among the reportedly interested parties but according to the Daily Express, the club has received no formal offers as of yet, with just 6 days left until the window shuts until January.

IN – Lucas Paqueta

This 20-year-old midfield star is currently plying his trade in his homeland in Brazil with Flamengo and has been tipped for a bright future with the national team after already featuring several times for the U-20’s.

Earlier in the window, Liverpool failed to bring Lyon’s Nabil Fekir to the club, as reported by The Express and they may now look to Paqueta as a suitable alternative for the Frenchman, possibly for around £40m, according to TeamTalk.

The Brazilian is an exciting young atacking midfielder who would add extra depth to Klopp’s offensive ranks and surely only improve in the coming years.
