Chelsea to swap players with Tottenham

Chelsea are reportedly weighing up rivalling Tottenham for the transfer of Inter Milan midfielder Matias Vecino this summer.

Spurs have made an enquiry about the Uruguay international, but Chelsea could also try to snap him up in a smart exchange deal involving Davide Zappacosta moving in the opposite direction, according to Calciomercato.

Vecino has shone in Serie A and Calciomercato claim possible incoming Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has long been an admirer of his.

The Blues could definitely do with a new signing in the middle of the park after a number of flops coming in in that position in recent times.

Having made the costly error of selling Nemanja Matic to rivals Manchester United last summer, Chelsea have since brought in Tiemoue Bakayoko, Danny Drinkwater and Ross Barkley in his place.

However, none have succeeded at Stamford Bridge and it may be that Sarri or whoever comes in will make improvements there a priority in the transfer market.

Vecino is not the biggest name by any means but could well shine under a manager who seems to know him well.

Zappacosta as a makeweight, meanwhile, also makes sense as he’s not really managed to establish himself since joining Chelsea last summer.

World Cup: A ‘Racist buffoon’ tweets to mock Senegal national team

Lord Sugar has come under fire from Twitter users over a tweet comparing the Senegalese national team to street sellers from a beach in Marbella.

While as ever there are a few people telling everyone to lighten up and not get offended by everything, this is clearly an extremely unfunny and ill thought out tweet from Sugar.

Senegal beat Poland yesterday in their first World Cup match since all the way back in 2002, putting in a fine display and causing something of an upset against Robert Lewandowski and co.

Sugar, however, has chosen to focus on something of a racist stereotype that has absolutely no place in the game.

Many have called him up on this tweet and we’ve provided a screen shot below for when he inevitably sees sense and deletes it.

This is hugely disappointing behaviour from a public figure, however, and the reaction below sums up pretty well how it’s gone down among fans…

Oh dear there’s a huge slab of racism in this tweet!!!

Replying to @Lord_Sugar

This an absolutely disgraceful tweet.

It’s okay though, because he’s since tweeted about this amazing butterfly. Just out of admiration of the wonders of nature, though, not to divert attention away from anything else…

UPDATE: Lord Sugar has taken the tweet down, but couldn’t quite bring himself to apologise, saying he still thinks it’s funny…

Just been reading the reaction to my funny tweet about the guy on the beach in Marbella . Seems it has been interpreted in the wrong way as offensive by a few people . Frankly I cant see that I think it’s funny. But I will pull it down if you insist .

Real Madrid wants a Liverpool star, not Mohamed Salah

Real Madrid’s new manager Julen Lopetegui is reportedly keen for his club to look into sealing the transfer of Liverpool forward Sadio Mane.

Diario Gol claims the Spanish giants could refocus their efforts into signing the Senegal international as a cheaper alternative to Mohamed Salah up front, as he’d likely cost a maximum of £79million.

Mane has shone for Liverpool and could be ideal to make the step up to a big club like Real Madrid, whom he actually scored against in last season’s Champions League final defeat.

A hard-working and productive player who can operate anywhere in a front three, Mane could be just what Los Blancos need next season as they may make some big changes in attack.

Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema had various difficulties in the campaign just gone and Mane looks a very solid option to come in in that area if Diario Gol’s suggestions he could move for just £79m prove correct.

The report also links Lyon’s Nabil Fekir as an option, and Liverpool will surely hope not to lose such an important player in their high-pace and high-energy front line that tore teams apart for so much of 2017/18.

While Salah undoubtedly gets more hype, the Egyptian was allowed to shine thanks to the great work by Mane and Roberto Firmino alongside him up top.

Mourinho makes move to get his kind of player in Bayern Munich

Manchester United and other interested clubs can reportedly seal the transfer of Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng if they cough up £52.7million for him.The Germany international is currently at the World Cup with his country as they look to recover from a bad start and retain the trophy they won in 2014.

Boateng has long been regarded as one of the finest defensive players in Europe, and has also won a host of major honours during his time at Bayern, including six Bundesliga titles and the Champions League.

However, it seems he wants out of the club as Bild claim Bayern have been made aware of the player’s desire to move abroad.

Boateng would be a great fit at United to strengthen at centre-back, which has been an area of weakness for them for some time now.

Chris Smalling and Phil Jones clearly don’t look good enough as long-term solutions in that area, and Calciomercato have previously listed the Red Devils as being among a number of Boateng’s admirers.

If Bild’s claim that £52.7m is the maximum required to prize the 29-year-old away then that’s surely money United can afford to improve in such an important area.
