Barcelona striker Luis Suarez has praised teammate Lionel Messi, labeling him as the best player in the world following his side’s 5-0 win over Real Betis.
Both Suarez and Messi scored twice while Ivan Rakitic was also on the score-sheet as Ernesto Valverde’s side put five past Betis in the second half of the game.
This result puts Barcelona on 54 points in La Liga, 11 points above second placed Atletico Madrid.
Speaking after the game to reporters, Suarez expressed his happiness with the big result and lauded Messi for his superb performance.
As reported by Spanish newspaper Marca, Suarez said, “The people who came to the stadium could enjoy it, they had the chance to see the best player in history. He plays each game with such detail. He’s spectacular.”
A controversial incident occurred during the match, with two lighters being thrown onto the pitch by the supporters. However, Suarez did not talk much about that, choosing to focus on his side’s display.
“That’s a separate issue. This is a spectacle and everyone wants to do their job. I like to talk about football, not about things like this.”
“We have to be very happy. We did a great job. We played a great game, it was very complete,” the former Liverpool striker added.
